The assets of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) for the future of heritage science

Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is a versatile elemental analytical technique whose basic elements were described as early 1962, shortly after the invention of pulsed laser. Since that time, LIBS has been applied for characterization various applications. In this work, we review evolution artworks' materials applications and development cultural heritage during years 2015–2020. The faced overcome challenges by studies conservation/restoration archaeological objects. These required improvements in technology order to obtain good reproducible signals (high S/N, sensitivity) more reliable quantitative analysis. They also encouraged research community focus on instrumentation minimize laser impact, increase miniaturization (enabling situ characterization), combine different spectroscopic techniques. We aim encourage people working science use technique, whom may be brand-new analysis motivate researchers continue developing address issues conservation, restoration, archaeology.
